March Ramblings

We returned from Maui on Saturday after a well-needed vacation. The great news – no mishaps, odd injuries, or broken bones! Yay! Just lots of rest, massages, sitting by the pool or on the beach doing nothing. It was wonderful and I passed the test for future travel.

Some Travel Tips

I did learn a few things about how to travel better, especially with the new TSA rules about carry-on bags. I saw a video on Instagram from TSA which helps explain why your soft-sided, overstuffed carry-on bag is now too big to put in the overhead bins. If you travel by air, it is definitely worth spending a few minutes to watch. My new hard case carry-on worked perfectly, and with 4 wheels instead of 2, it does not tip over when you put your personal bag on top of it. Another great tip from TSA, don’t pack anything you don’t plan to wear less than 3 times on a weeklong trip. That makes a lot of sense. After all, who sees you more than once other than the people you are travelling with? And they don’t care what you wear. Travel light and there will be lots of room in your suitcase for souveniers.

I need your stories

When Dr. Michael Okun spoke to our group a couple of weeks ago, he said that the most important thing we can do is to tell our stories about Parkinson’s. If you would like to share your story in any format: written, poetry, cartoons, story boards, and even songs, please send them to me at twitchywoman18@gmail.com. I hope to publish as many as possible on my website to share with you.

And speaking of stories….

I just finished a new book, Incurable Gifts, by Jim O’Connell, about his experiences living with Parkinson’s. A former news editor for Bloomberg News and other news outlets, O’Connell writes beautifully and with subtle humor about his life. I highly recommend this book for anyone with PD and their caretakers.

Next Sunday Morning with Twitchy Woman, March 8

Book cover of 'Oh Crap! It's Parkinson's: A Rebel's Guide to Taking Back Control of Your Life' by Sara Whittingham, MD

Another new book arrived this week from Sara Whittingham, who will be joining me this coming Sunday, March 8. Oh Crap! It’s Parkinson’s: A Rebel’s Guide to Taking Back Control of Your Life. Sara, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s at age 46, has written this as a guide for other people with Parkinson’s. There are many anecdotes from people living with PD, as well as a humorous cartoon version of her dog, nicknamed Twitchy McGrit, who serves as a guide through the book. The book is currently available only as a Kindle book on Amazon. The hardcover and audio book versions will be coming soon.

Don’t forget to register for our Sunday webinar with Sara on March 8 at 1:00 PM EDT. It promises to be a lot of fun, especially when Twitchy Woman and Twitchy McGrit get together. Please register here

Finally, if you are going to the World Parkinson Congress in Phoenix and have not signed up under Twitchy Woman, please let Alisa know so we can add you to our WhatsApp list (alisahuntington@me.com). We will let you know when and where you can meet up with other Twitchies and what activities we have planned.

Have a great week!

Hi Sharon, So glad you had a wonderful time in Maui! I’m jealous! And how wonderful that it was sheer enjoymet and no mishaps. On another note, are you familia with the book “Stop Parkin’ and Start Living by John C. Coleman? And the Aquas? I’m not sure if he’s still around _ I think I saw him on FB. While I don’t take the Aquas as regularly as I should, I clearly see a difference in terms of hydration.
    See you on Sunday!

Clinical Trials Corner

SEPTEMBER 2025

I’ve been hesitant to feature new clinical trials as a few that I had on my list to include in future columns have either been removed from the site or marked as withdrawn. Keeping my fingers crossed that the trials I feature continue to recruit and maintain their funding. Click here for the rest of the report from Jen
