Wow! Amazing Progress in Gene Therapy Treatments

from Science

A gene therapy appears to be the first treatment to slow the progression of Huntington disease, an inherited, fatal neurological disorder, according to a company that announced results from a small clinical trial today. UniQure reported in a press release that its drug reduced the progression of Huntington symptoms by 75% over 3 years in 12 people who had received it versus a comparison group.”

What does this mean for those of us with Parkinson’s? Since Huntington Disease is also a neurological disorder, these results may influence the current gene therapy research for Parkinson’s according to Walid Abi-Saab, M.D., chief medical officer of uniQure. He says: “These findings reinforce our conviction that AMT-130 has the potential to fundamentally transform the treatment landscape for Huntington’s disease, while also providing important evidence supporting one-time, precision-delivered gene therapies for the treatment of neurological disorders.

Clinical Trials Corner

SEPTEMBER 2025

I’ve been hesitant to feature new clinical trials as a few that I had on my list to include in future columns have either been removed from the site or marked as withdrawn. Keeping my fingers crossed that the trials I feature continue to recruit and maintain their funding. Click here for the rest of the report from Jen
